Your First Visit

Pets immediately feel at ease at Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic. The warm welcome, soft lighting, cosy fireplace and comfy sofas help them relax in no time at all, so the healing process can begin that much faster.

There’s no rushing at Edmonton Holistic. We take the time to listen to everything you have to say, so we can learn as much about your pet as possible. Holistic medicine doesn’t believe in treating multiple health problems separately, but believes they are all related. The more information we have on those problems, the easier it is to understand how they are linked.

The examination is also extremely comprehensive. We examine the pulses and tongue, and palpate acupuncture points, to gain insight Traditional Chinese medical treatments might be helpful. We also gather data that will help us make a sound western medical diagnosis, through physical examination and laboratory testing. Finally, we do veterinary chiropractic and osteopathic exams to identify where the body isn’t moving freely and how that might relate to the symptoms your dog or cat is experiencing. All in all, it’s one of the most thorough physical examinations your pet will ever receive.

Then it’s time for some hands-on healing – something most animals enjoy. Dogs and cats love the healing human touch of human hands, whether it’s a Reiki treatment, an osteopathic adjustment, a Shiatsu massage, or even  an acupuncture treatment.

At last it’s time to discuss our findings, and our sense of how all your pet’s various complaints tie together. We’ll answer any questions you might have and explain the treatment plan and what you can do to prevent the problem in the future. We may teach you to make a more holistic pet food, teach you to do massage or acupressure on your pet, or prescribe some Chinese herbs. We’ll talk about conventional treatment options such as drugs, surgery, and referral services, and how they might integrate into the plan. Our goal is to connect you with the best of all worlds in resolving your pet’s complaints.

By the time you’re on your way out the door, your pet will be feeling better already; you’ll have a new understanding of what makes them tick; and all of this will have taken place in a very pleasant and supportive environment. It’s a wonderful experience – the ultimate ‘spa day’ for your pet – and everyone of us loves being able to provide that for you.
