Meet our Doctors

All of our doctors are trained in conventional medicine and have advanced training in holistic medicine.

Dr. Steve Marsden

Holistic Veterinarian and Clinic Co-Founder
Steve Marsden - Edmonton Holistic VeteranarianDr. Steve, a native Edmontonian, is co-founder of Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic with his wife, Dr Kären Marsden, and is arguably the foremost holistic veterinary practitioner in the world. He spends three months a year teaching veterinarians on five continents how to do what we do here every day at Edmonton Holistic. In 2009, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association named him Small Animal Veterinarian of the Year, and in 2010, the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association named him teacher of the year. In addition, he spends half his time treating people, thanks to his credentials as a naturopathic physician and training as a Chinese medical practitioner. Dr Steve has been a veterinarian for almost 25 years, and has spent about 20 of them practising holistic medicine. In the rare moments when he is not working, he enjoys diving, sailing, and spending time with his wife and two sons, Noah and Leo, in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. He also dotes on their dog, Lu Lu, and their two cats, Dora and Diego.

Dr. Kären Marsden

Karen Marsden - Edmonton Holistic VeteranarianHolistic Veterinarian and Clinic Co-Founder
Dr. Kären received an Ivy League education at the University of Pennsylvania and went on to train as a veterinarian at the prestigious Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University outside Boston. At Edmonton Holistic, she performs all our surgeries and dentistries, supported by Heather and Janelle. She has a great passion for dogs, and it was her work with Greyhound Rescue that led to her career in veterinary medicine. Currently she dotes on a Weimaraner named Lu Lu, her husband Steve, and her two children, Noah and Leo.

Dr. Jennifer Marshall

Holistic Veterinarian
Dr. Jennifer is yet another American-turned-Canadian in our practice, having completed her veterinary degree at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She worked at a busy conventional practice in Phoenix, Arizona, before augmenting her skills with training in acupuncture and herbal medicine. She has been a part of the team at Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic since 2008 and has special interests in dermatology, feline medicine, and behaviour problems. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tyson (also a veterinarian) and young son, Charlie, as well as their calico cat, Grace, and their black Lab, Libby.

Dr. Gina McLachlan

Holistic Veterinarian
Dr. Gina graduated in 1993 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and spent the first dozen years of her career in small and mixed animal medicine. She then became intrigued with complementary medicine and has spent the last three years obtaining a series of credentials in acupuncture, herbal medicine, and osteopathy. Between all that training and being a mother of three young daughters, Dr. Gina has her hands full, but still finds time to experiment in her kitchen with the latest yummy recipe for her two canine friends. A couple of her previous recipes have won rave reviews and are on this site. Click here to try them out.

Dr. Tracey Henderson

Holistic Veterinarian
Dr. Tracey Henderson lives in Canmore, but commutes all the way to Edmonton, just to be a part of our unique veterinary practice. Dr. Tracey graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1996 and was in a small animal and mixed animal practice for 11 years before pursuing further accreditation in veterinary acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. She enjoys complementary medicine so much that she spends a good deal of her spare time studying it, as well as supporting her own health through Yoga and Qi Gong. Then it’s time for a break in the backcountry on foot, skis, or bicycle with her husband, Hal, and her dog, Chester.
